Skilter 250 manual

Jake is interested in every facet of the marine aquarium hobby from the concepts to the technology, rare fish to exotic corals, and his interests are well documented through a very prolific career of speaking to reef clubs and marine aquarium events, and writing articles for aquarium publications across the globe. His primary interest is in corals which Jake pursues in the aquarium hobby as well as diving the coral reefs of the world.

If the hole ends up sloppy, wrap a rubber band around the tube so it sits on the lid and you can still slide the tube up and down for adjustment.

Pre soak and install a limewood airstone on the end and lower it into the skimmer lift tube so it is close to the bottom. Slip the other end of the airline on an air pump, I prefer an adjustable pump like a Rena but any pump will work with a valve installed for adjustment.

Now play with the air feed rate and move the airstone up and down in the chamber until you get the skimmate you desire. Another good tip is the floss and carbon cartridges get expensive after awhile so I bought a foam insert for a Whisper Triad hang on back filter and trimmed it to fit perfectly in the Skilter frame. It can be rinsed out and used hundreds of times. This also helps contain microbubbles better than the stock floss too.

Hope this helps! Old posts often pop up when someone does a new search on a specific topic. I answer many posts I was a part of originally years ago. Thats one of the beauties of these forums, data sticks around and still applies years later even though we may have forgotten about it.

OK, Thanks! If i disconnect the air feed and little valve then will the skimmer run slower or faster? So doesn't it need the air feed and valve? You are replacing that air feed with the airstone so it is not needed anymore, plus its a lot quieter this way too.

I used a Rena and it worked well. If you already have some air pumps try what you have before investing in a new one. Thank you One more question. Why would the micro bubbles be bad?

Since the foam insert would help stop the bubbles better. I thought the bubbles were good for the aquarium because they were full of oxygen. More than anything they are an eyesore. Way back in the day we used air pumps and air stones with lift tubes and undergravel filters but things have progressed since then.

Should i have the Skilter hang on the back of the tank, to add water flow as well or would it do just as good of job if i put it on the back of my refugium? You can post now and register later.
