Q: Our internet connection sucks , does the game need good connection to internet for LAN games? Are you trying tro play via physical LAN, like Ethernet right? Could you provide more info on how the LAN was set up? And you tried to disable the firewall yet? Is there any way to enable debugging information? Also may I ask how are you guys attempting to LAN? Still i need to know so i can help further. As I said before, we did all of this, and nothing worked.
We gonna completely reinstall the game to test again. Using a OpenVPN server however, works fine, because you and the other host will share a common gateway. Original post : We are not on the same network. Edit 2: Bingo, it works with VPN. They could keeped the old algorithm. Too bad. DMZ disabled. DMZ enabled. My bet is that the game is doing a broadcast to gateway to find the other peers. Using a OpenVPN server works fine. Thanks for your feedback.
Me and my dad love playing Age of Empires 2 and its expansion, Conquerors. We haven't been able to play for while because of our recent upgrade straight from Windows 7. We've spent months looking for a solution, with many people offering solutions through multiple forums, which have not worked. We have therefore gone back to XP machines, an old but working laptop and desktop machine. They can ping each other, remain on the same router, both machines have IPX network protocol installed, have the same IP range ex.
This does not work either. We have the firewalls turned off and allowed the programs through our anti viruses. We have tested the DirectPlay through dxdiag.

You can set how many players the maximum is seven who can join using the settings on the next page. You are also free to include computer players. The friends can join whether or not they are on the same LAN.

Game difficulty level —the skill level of the computer players in any in your game. Game speed —how quickly game time lapses affects all players. Map size —the size of the map the larger the map, the longer the game is likely to last. Victory condition —the condition a player must achieve to be considered the game winner.
Start the LAN game. By the time you finish choosing the settings you want for your multiplayer game, others should have joined. You will see their Steam usernames appear on the lobby list on the left hand pane of the Game Settings page. Once you launch your multiplayer game with your fellow LAN players, Steam will prudently establish the connection using shortest path between the players, which is through your local network.
This means that even if the Steam servers are overloaded, your game will not lag as long as all the players are on the same LAN. All the single player options let you play against an AI.
In multiplayer, you can also select an AI as your opponent or ally. Yes No. Not Helpful 6 Helpful 3. You can only use cheatcodes in singleplayer, not multiplayer. The only way to cheat against other players would be with hacks, which more experienced players may notice and which would ultimately be caught by the cheat-protection system and get you banned.
